Story

Hi!

My name is Reva Palrecha, and I’m running the SF Marathon 5k. For this race, I’m fundraising for the AAPI Beauty Justice Project within the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, which is a program of Breast Cancer Prevention Partners (BCPP).

As a young South Asian girl living in 2025, beauty and skincare has been a big part of my world. More girls I know are getting into cosmetics and skincare, and I get it. It’s a fun way to experiment new things and express ourselves. But the truth is, not everything that we put on our face is good for our body, potentially causing skin damage and even increasing the risk of diseases, like breast cancer.

This cause is especially important to me because my mom battled breast cancer. Knowing everything she went through, I want to help prevent others from experiencing the same thing. Did you know:

- The American Cancer Society reports that 1 in 3 women get cancer in their lifetime.

- 1 in 8 women today will be diagnosed with breast cancer.

- Asian Americans are the biggest consumers of skincare products, spending 34% more than any other demographic.

- Asian consumers are 17% more likely than the average consumer to use facial skincare.

The AAPI Beauty Justice Project is about protecting communities, especially ones of Asian American or Pacific Islander backgrounds, by demanding safe ingredients in products used every single day. Beauty shouldn’t come at the cost of our health. With the Asian beauty standard promoting straighter hair and lighter skin, products in this market are full of toxic ingredients that science links to negative health effects, like cancer and skin damage.

This year, the race is on July 27th. I ran this race last year with my mom between her 2nd and 3rd cycles of chemo, and I immediately knew I wanted to do it again with a bigger purpose. I am running to help raise awareness for breast cancer, to fundraise money for BCPP, and to set a new personal record! If you can, I would be so grateful for your support in my fundraising efforts. My goal is to raise $1,000. No amount is too small, even a $5 donation can help! Your donation will help bring awareness to this project, and push for clean, non-toxic ingredients in beauty and personal care products.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. Supporting this project means supporting health, justice, and a safer future — and I’d be so thankful to have you be part of that. Donations made through this platform are secure and will be remitted directly to BCPP's AAPI Beauty Justice Project. Thanks so much for your support!

With love and gratitude,

Reva Palrecha 💗
